Quest Kids Revisited

I was motivated to refresh the Quest Kids blog when I found out our dear Mary Hall had gotten married... four months ago.

Also, I went to an airshow in Hillsboro this last weekend and could have sworn I saw a girl in our Quest group (from Chicago?) but I could not remember her name. Granted she left for home soon after arriving to Vashon, but I was still bothered I couldn't remember her name.

Thus, after three years of stagnant posts, I am pushing this month for an update on each Questee. We'll see how it goes and if my stalker abilities are up to par.

To post your own update, email it to: http://vashonquest.blogspot.com/

Closing of Quest Kids Blog

Hello all,

It's been hard for me to keep the site updated & send out yearly Christmas updates when I don't get much of a response from people. I need as much help from as many Questees as I can get. I can't stalk you, though I've tried. :)
So, if I don't get a response from a reasonable number of Questees by the end of the year (Dec. 31) saying that they want me to continue the site and the Christmas letters, then they both will be discontinued.
Thanks & I hope to hear from you, preferably through comments to this post.

Jessie Jo Rhodes

My life is kind of crazy, as I'm sure everyone else's is. I'm still in school though I'm almost done! After what felt like thousands of majors and taking time off I have one semester of classes left and then student teaching, I'm going to be an english teacher! I guess there was reason to the madness. Otherwise I would have never met Derek, who I am engaged to. I'm engaged! I just wanted to let you know. I haven't fallen off the face of the earth really, I'm still here! Have a great day, week, whatever and maybe I'll actually take a picture of myself so ya'll can actually see me.

with love,

Jordan & Laura Day - 2006

Hey Questies!
Jordan and I have continued to be busy with school and work.

We are still in Rexburg. I am almost finished with the nursing program and he is almost finished with his bachelors in Biology. He has just been accepted to Midwestern University in AZ and Des Moines University in IA for podiatry school.

We will probably be moving to Des Moines in April after graduation. We will be there until he finishes medical school.

No baby or baby on the way, but we are keeping busy enough as it is!

We hope you all are also doing well! Take care and Merry Chirstmas!
Jordan and Laura

Ashley McNabb - 2006

Ashley & Carl McNabb both graduated with their bachelor's degrees in April 2006.

On May 10, 2006 at 1 a.m., Ashley brought their baby boy, Riley, into the world.

Shortly after Riley's birth, the family moved to Carl's hometown of Inkom, Idaho, to plant some roots and help on his family's farm.

During the summer, Travis & I were drive-in movie junkies. We had went on a couple trips: touring with family in Yellowstone and camping in Montana near Butte.

I completed my student teaching on December 1st. Hoo-rah for me! I taught 7th and 8th grade at Sandcreek Middle School in Ammon, just outside Idaho Falls. It was a good experience. Tough, but good.

Now the next biggest task in my life is labor and childbirth. It'll be worth the pain & trouble. :) We'll be having a baby girl sometime around June 3rd.

Travis & I are doing well. We're both in school for Winter 2007, but I've only got 5 credits- three required and 2 for fun. Travis is done with his automotive classes and labs so he's now working on the business part of his degree & taking a physics class to finish his associate's degree. We'll both graduate in April. Happy day.

Candace Place - 2006

I have a new e-mail address. I hardly ever check my byui one anymore. Sorry. My e-mail is now CandaceMI@gmail.com

I graduated in April this year (2006) with a BS in History Education with a minor in English Ed. I then spent the summer in Michigan (for the first time in four years) with my family. I even got to see my nephew, Tearnin. I was good to be home again and I got to be a councilor at girls camp and nanny a bit during the day for some extra cash. Which made getting a job interesting.

I interviewed with a number of school districts all over Utah, Idaho, and Georgia all on the phone. I ended up getting hired by the Jordan School District in Utah. (They were desperate for teachers so I knew they would take me.) I am now an 8th grade History/English teacher at West Hills Middle School in West Jordan, Utah. It's always a learning experience, and I've never met so many unique kids before in my life, not even when I was student teaching. It's also a lot of work for little money.

I attend a singles ward there where I've been able to make some great friends. I also am close friends now with one of my fellow first year teachers, Chaysie. She and her husband really make me feel welcome. (I think they feel sorry for me, too, because I live alone... and don't know anyone in the area.)

I love living alone, by the way, it's so refreshing after 40 some different roommates.

I also have a new vehicle I cruse around in, a Jeep Liberty. I love it!!!

Well, every once in a while I get to missing college life a little, so I take myself up to Provo and hang out with an old friend and her roommates. It gets me out of West Jordan, and I get to hang out with people who are not 13. It's nice.

Well, I'm home only for a short time for Christmas and then, it's back to school. I just hope the kids are better behaved this time around. Oh well.

Myron - 2006

I am living in Provo working, all graduated from BYUH. I'm planning on going the DC area to peruse a advanced degree in Human Factor Engineering with a emphasis in cognition.

I'm not married but not complaining, when it happens it happens. I'm very happy with my situation and life at the moment so things are good.

I have recently ran in to Steve (Puka) at BYU and he seems to be doing well, and also Nathan he seemed to be on top of his game also.

Nathanial Dixon and I keep tabs on each other, he is still at BYUI and his dating life is as full and fun as ever. We enjoy giving each other advice.

I am going to attach a commerical that I shoot for a Hockey team in California over the summer. I know the acting is amazing.

Val Laroque - 2006

Hey Questerinees! I hope everyone has had a fabulous year! It's been quite an interesting year for us. In July we made the big move from Hawaii to Maryland. MD is growing on me but I don't think I'll ever love it like I loved Hawaii. I'm missing my friends there and the BEACH! Life goes on.

Garrick likes his new command and has enough free time to get back to school, so that'll be good for him. I've started working fulltime at Best Buy and I love it there. My coworkers are hilarious, we keep each other entertained :). Aidan's loving life at the pre-k on base. He's such a social little guy, staying home with mommy was not fun at all. He's happy as a clam playing with other kids all day. I can't believe he'll be 3 in April. Time goes by too fast!

Not much else going on around here. Aside from the move things have been pretty low key, which is always a good thing. I'm looking forward to hearing what the rest of you are up to!

Mary Grace Hall - 2006

This year has been sweet.

I have been mostly in Idaho, playing, and going to school. This winter I took up Telemark- skiing (if you dont know what that is, google it). Its in the backcountry, which i fell in love with.

Also, went to Alaska for the summer, with good old Pete Snedecor. We had a good time. went camping and had some adventures when he wasn't working (which was all the time, building houses).

Took a great road trip, ended up in idaho falls where i teach in the special ed room at rocky mountain middle school. That is an entertaining job. middle school kids are so funny to watch, they are concerned so much about themselves! haha And i really like the special ed kids, they are fun. I will be back up to school in january, and i am (beleive it or not) getting closer to graduation. No date set yet, but very few classes left :)

I date here and there, but still not ready to get serious about life. I guess thats about all there is with me right now.

Still a rec major and playing outdoors as much as possible. Miss you all, have a good holiday! Oh- new email address, besides the school one: marygracehall@gmail.com and cell is (208)520-1125

The Blacks - 2006

Dear Vashon Kids,
Here we are still in the middle of the Indian Ocean on our little island of Mauritius with 1.2 million Hindus, Muslims and a few other mixed race - oh and a million and 1/2 dogs! We landed here a year ago last Monday so this will be our second Thanksgiving and Christmas away from home.
We are enjoying our mission here - I (sister Black)am teaching music at the Chopin Conservatory of Music and keyboard lessons at the church. Brother Black teaches English lessons at the church, is taxi for Sister Black, young missionaries, church visitors to the island, President & Sister Gaya when they visit from Madagascar and is branch clerk to an inexperienced but very wonderful Branch President who needs lots of 'shadow leadership'. We are not allowed to wear badges or teach but do what we can to move the work along. We feed the missionaries breakfast every Thursday and some times in between, invite 'less actives' and others for dinners and are seeing some success in that area. This is a beautiful island and we are thankful to have the health, strength and energy to serve the Lord full time here.
We will be going home in April and would love to see any and all of you who happen to be in the area or coming by. We have happy memories of our days in Vashon. We feel sad that there are no more "questees" there to enjoy that beautiful place and have special experiences. Thanks Ashley for doing such a great job keeping us all in touch with each other.
Our love and best wishes to all of you. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
Love, Elder and Sister Black

Donya - 2006

Hi Everyone!
I hope everyone is doing great. It has been a long time since I talked to a lot of anyone in Idaho or Quest.

Well I got married in August and also bought a house. Started a new job in September. It has been a very busy couple of months.

My brother will be back from his mission in Las Vegas in about 6 months. I'm so excited, I miss him so much and he has miss so much of what has happened with me.

Well as for my new job I currently work at United Health Care as a Billing Specialist, I absolutely love it. I'm busy all the time with my job.

My new house is great, I love it. I've been doing a lot of painting. The first week we moved into our house we knocked out a wall and put in a sliding glass door. It was a big project but so much fun. My dad helped us with that big project. A week before our wedding in Florida my dad was cliff diving and he miscalculated his jump. He ended up shattering his one foot completely and breaking his other foot. He is just now starting to walk again, luckily he just barely received permission from his doctor to fly to Florida to see me married.

Right now my life basically revolves around my new job and new house. My husband and I are completely content with just being with each other and our house.

Oh also I would like to say Congrats to Stape on the baby, I'm happy for you! I thought I'd include a picture of me and my hubby and then a picture with my parents in here. Hope all is good.

Katie Gleed - 2006

It's finally here! I feel like I've been here forever! But I will be walking this December and then finishing this BYU-Idaho experience by doing an internship. Guys its the coolest one I could want! I will be working in Salt Lake (okay not to hot on that but...) with LDS humanitarian services and emergency aid. It'll be in the heart of Salt Lake in the church office building. I am so excited!
Um, other than that things are the same, I still talk too much, play too much, do too much school and church somehow all at the same time :) I am dating a guy (I learned to flirt :)) but we will see how things go when I leave and he stays here...dun dun dun.
